What is Dock-to-Stock Time?

Dock-to-Stock Time is a warehouse performance KPI that measures how long it takes for incoming goods to move from the receiving dock to an available inventory location.

The process typically includes unloading, checking quantities and condition, receiving the goods into the system, labelling or scanning, put-away, and making the inventory available for use or customer orders.

Example: A shipment arrives at 9:00 AM. After unloading, inspection, system receiving, and put-away, the stock becomes available at 12:00 PM.

Dock-to-Stock Time = 3 hours.

Why is it Important?

Long dock-to-stock times can create receiving congestion, delay inventory availability, increase labour costs, and even cause apparent stockouts when products are physically in the warehouse but not yet available in the system.

Reducing this time helps businesses improve warehouse productivity, inventory visibility, order fulfilment, and space utilisation.
